Whole-House Dehumidifier Installations
If the humidity inside your house is above 60%, you’ll probably notice that you feel hot and sticky, and that the air smells stale. Most experts recommend keeping the humidity indoors to below 50% for maximum comfort, although anything between 30-50% is considered acceptable. Too dry, and you may notice that your throat and skin feel dry. Prolonged dry conditions could even cause damage to your furniture and wall coverings.
Your home’s humidity may be too high if you’ve noticed any of these issues:
- Stale smelling air
- Peeling wallpaper
- Signs of moisture in the basement
- Feeling hot and sticky all the time
Whole-house dehumidifiers connect to the central air HVAC ducts in your home, and can extract moisture from the air in every room. They’re usually equipped with a condenser and a pump to collect the water and channel it away from your home. In some cases, the system may use gravity drainage, removing the need for a pump.
These solutions are more convenient than portable dehumidifiers, which have a small reservoir to hold the water extracted from the air. While a freestanding dehumidifier is useful as a temporary solution, the reservoir requires emptying frequently, which can be a source of frustration.
