Heating Maintenance and Repairs
The average lifespan of a residential furnace is between 15 and 30 years, although some systems can last longer than that. However, to get the full life of the unit, you must have it inspected regularly.
Furnace maintenance helps ensure your home’s heating is properly ventilated, that there are no leaks, and that any fans, filters, or other moving parts and consumables are in a good state of repair.
Watch out for these signs your heating system requires a tune-up:
- An unexplained and unexpected increase in your energy bills
- Odd smells coming from vents
- You sometimes have difficulty starting the furnace, or the pilot light won’t stay on
- Strange noises when running the heating
In addition to being important from a safety point of view, heating maintenance may save you money in the long term by preventing breakdowns. A scheduled visit to fix minor issues is likely to be less costly and more convenient than an emergency callout in the middle of a cold or stormy day.
